Poles and teeth

21:25 Feb 27 2008
Times Read: 778

The pole that has cut me off from the internet has now been sawn up into little poles and is laying by the side of the lane - the telephone cable that was connected is taped to the fence, but nothing works. I hope that this is the start of the repair work and not just someone clearing the mess out of the field :(

I have managed to get my VR fix on a friend's computer, that was kewl ... I have caught up with the database backlog, my messages, House forum and rating

It was a mite interesting to see that out of the three other procurators, it was a Master vampire that kindly stepped in and dealt with the last of the procurator queue ... hmmmmmmm

anyhoooo

I have a false front tooth, it was one of the first things I got when I came to the UK. I don't know what the correct name for it is but it is held in with a little metal post.

Tonight I went to my Aikido class and ducked when I should have jumped or something. I now have the whole tooth thing in an envelope and an appointment to see the dentist tomorrow - joy - the intelligent me knows that the dentist is a highly trained professional using state of the art techniques to ease pain and suffering - the actual me knows that when someone stuffs a needle into any part of you, its gonna hurt, then you get to dribble for hours afterwards :(

1) It's called a "Crown".

2) I believe that the majority of text books used in the world's dental schools were written circa 1780 by The Marrquis de Sade.

Good Luck!

My deepest sympathy as I truly hate the dentist too. They are always way too happy while pulling out those big needles to stick in places I don't even like to crunch ice against. Good luck hun.

I have just seen radu's new stamp ... it made me chuckle. Three of the people that I noticed when I first arrived here, and who I really look up to, have formed a little society all of their own ... its going to be errrrr interesting

You're very right, and isn't it funny how these folks are also some of the first to welcome newcomers to VR and offer help? It's darn funny though.

Phone companies

19:02 Feb 13 2008
Times Read: 806

My step dad signed up for a new telephone deal. As far as I can tell, the line still belongs to the UK's main telephone company - BT - but the new company hires it from them.

Our house is set a little way back from a main road and there is a short shared road up to where the house is.

On the day the new company were due to take over, one of the telephone poles was found to be rotten and too dangerous to climb.

We're now stuck in a huge argument about who is due to fix the pole and, until it is sorted out, we have no phone :(

Its a BT pole on land owned by a farmer who is paid by BT to have the pole there. The cables run to seven houses who, between them, have BT and two other telephone companies renting them lines

Its gonna be messy, I can just tell

I can get on VR at lunchtimes but that's at VR backup time - and that can be wayyyyy laggy

You might consider dropping a call to the press that while this fuss is going on over the cost of a pole, they are putting peoples lives at risk by depriving them of the ability to call emergency services! Works around here :)

Update

Dear Reader,

I am over the flu ... phew ... a lot of people are now catching it, so I am glad I got it early coz I get the chance to tease them about it

I have a new system on rating profiles now. I rate every other day and only rate the day old profiles ... it gives people a chance to actually build something to rate. I also now go back 100 profiles each time - this means I can see any vast improvements and re-rate.

I've been housekeeping in House Eternal's main forum that was fun :)

I came in this morning to list four things that I had left in the database submission queue because they would need a little work researching them; there wasa vampire wedding service and a vampire sword, I can't remember the other two. I didn't have the time yesterday but knew I had a free period this morning - but *dramatic music* they've vanished, I've checked and no-one else has listed them :(

anyhow, its slurp drink, munch smarties cookie and then into geography *sigh*

catch you laters ....
